Thermal draperies – effective at keeping the cold out and warmth in

In the majority of home, windows are the worst at keeping the cold out.  This is especially true in older homes.  An effective way to help keep the cold out and the warmth in is with thermal draperies.  Because of their insulating design, thermal draperies including curtains and blinds can actually save you money.

Ordinary curtains and drapes are made with basic types of fabric which have virtually no insulating capabilities.  Thermal draperies on the other hand can insulate your windows up to 5 times better than regular window treatments.  If you live in an area of the country that has harsh winters, this is an important fact to know.

Thermal drapes are of a much heavier design and can raise the R-value from R-1 to as high as an R-6.  The higher the R-value, the more effective the drapes are at keeping the cold air out of your home.  Other options to consider include cellular shades or honeycomb shades.  These shades are designed with air pockets that are also effective at keep warm air in the home and cold air out.
